This is a larger view of my grandfather's sign shop. Technology and the internet have revolutionized the sign industry. Today it is no longer necessary to have retail space. The cost of real estate has encouraged most sign makers to work out of their house. Those who choose to have retail space must hire employees to increase output in order to pay for high rent and utility costs. Today's retail sign businesses often become bankruptcy candidates when the economy gets a little shakey.
